Hillel Kogan, choreographer and dancer, was born in Tel Aviv in 1974. Winner of the Landau Lottery Prize for the Arts 2015, winner of the title "Prominent Creator 2013" on behalf of the circle of dance critics in Israel, "The Promising Choreographer" in 2014 and 1999, on behalf of the European dance magazine "tanz", winner of the 2010 Yair Shapira Award, winner Dance Award on behalf of Teva company - 2009.
Graduate of the Thelma-Yellin High School of the Arts, majoring in theater. He studied dance at the Kfar Saba Conservatory, the Tel Aviv Dance Center, the Bat-Dor Dance Studio, and the Merce Cunningham Studio in New York.
He danced with the youth dance company "Bikuri Makhol" (1990), with the Batsheva Ensemble (1995-96), with "Nomades" in Switzerland (1996-98), and with the Ballet Gulbenkian in Portugal .(1999-2005)
He created his first work for members of the Batsheva Ensemble in 1996, and later created for the National Ballet of Portugal (1999), for Muza Dance group (1999), as part of "Shades in Dance" festival (Tel Aviv) and more.
Since 2005, Hillel Kogan has been an assistant to choreographer Ohad Naharin, in the Batsheva Dance Company and abroad, alongside his work in the Israeli and international dance scene as an independent choreographer.
In 2015 and 2016, he was co-artistic director of 'Curtain Up', on behalf of the Israeli Ministry of Culture.
Within the 'Curtain Up' events He created "Taki Take 1" (2006, together with Inbal Jaacobi and Yossi Berg), "After the Bolero" (2007), "Everything" (2009), "Obscene Gesture" (2011). As part of 'Intimadance' Festival he created "The Rite of Spring" (2011).
His Piece 'We Love Arabs' (2013), won him awards and titles in Israel and abroad. With this work, he continues to perform throughout Israel, and in dozens of theaters and festivals around the world, including the United States, Australia, France, Germany, Belgium. Italy, Spain, Hungary, Czech Republic, Switzerland and more. 'We Love Arabs' is performed Hillel in four different versions: Hebrew, English, French and Spanish.
In 2017 he created "The Swan and the Pimp". In 2018 he created 'Stars and Dust' for the Ballet du Capitole in Toulouse, France.
In 2019 he created "What Now", and for the Bodhi Project in Austria, he created 'Dancer is the Answer'.
In 2020, he created 'Performance by Hillel Kogan' for the Braverman Gallery in Tel Aviv.
In 2021 he created the 'Folk Flake Flock' for students at the S.E.A.D. academy in Salzburg, Austria.
In the Israeli dance scene, he has collaborated as dancer, as co-creator, and as a dramaturge, with Ranna Raz, with Dana Ruttenberg, with Yossi Berg and Oded Graf and more, and also performed as a guest dancer with the Batsheva Dance Company.
In 2021 he participated in Dana Ruttenberg's work 'Everything Must Go'.
Hillel Kogan teaches 'Gaga' (the movement language of Ohad Naharin) and contemporary dance, both as an assistant to Ohad Naharin and as an independent choreographer. He has taught in companies as 'Carte Blanche' in Norway, 'Gauthier Dance' in Germany, 'I.T.Dansa' in Spain, 'Strut' in Australia, at the Academy of Dance in Jerusalem University and more. In the Batsheva Dance Company, Hillel worked as rehearsal director of the Batsheva Ensemble from 2005-2016, and currently directs the company's educational programs and the "Batsheva Hosts" season.
Hillel Kogan has written articles in the field of dance, which he published in the "Ma'akaf" online arts magazine, and in "Dance Diaries".
He holds a bachelor's degree with honors in social sciences and humanities from the Open University, and is currently pursuing a master's degree in cultural studies.
